Aftercare for Tattoos

General healing instructions:

  • Your tattoo will be bandaged when you leave our studio.  Leave the bandage on per instructions of the artist: ______________Hours.
  • When the bandage is removed, first clean your hands with soap and water.
  • Remove the bandage, soaking the bandage in warm water first if it is sticking.
  • Clean the tattoo with your hands, using soap and water only.
  • Pat the tattoo dry and apply an antibacterial ointment (Bacitracin or similar) lightly to the tattoo.  Use this for at least the first 48 hours after the tattoo was applied.
  • After the first 48 hours (or as instructed), you may use a fragrance free lotion or tattoo healing balm to moisturize the tattoo.
  • Keep the tattoo slightly moist for at least 10 to 14 days.

The last weeks:

  • Your tattoo will become itchy and flaky, not unlike a sunburn, about a week after it is applied.  DO NOT ITCH OR SCRATCH!
  • Slapping or patting the tattoo should help ease the itchy feeling.
  • Your tattoo will likely flake off colored bits.  This does not mean it is falling off! This is a normal part of the process. Relax.
  • Do not help your tattoo flake by picking or scratching it.
  • After the flaking, the skin should regain its normal texture within another week or so.
